My Tithing Testimony

A few years ago, I visited a church that a dear friend of mine regularly attend. The first sermon I heard there was on obedience and trusting God to lead you in the life that He has given to you, and this included tithing. I had never heard anyone preach on tithing before and it stirred up questions in my heart. I was very young, newly divorced with two children under the age of two, and was $30,000+ in debt with nothing to show for it.
Since the day I was saved, I had always felt a disconnect from God. No matter how I studied, prayed, or what I did to try to better myself, something was always missing in my relationship with Him and I could not fix it.
In that sermon, the preacher said something that hit me like a ton of bricks and I hope it gets you too if you need to hear it: “Tithing is not a choice it is a command, and it is the only command that God gives us that He tells us to test Him on. He tells us He WILL prove to us that if we give Him what is already His, He WILL bless us for it.
It all comes down to this, either you trust God and believe his word or you don’t. There is no in between, you do or you don’t.” That day I began giving back to God 10% of everything that he gave me and I did it with a happy heart. My financial woes began to turn around and in 3 short years I was completely debt free. Most importantly, that disconnect from God is gone and I cannot begin to tell you what a difference it has made in my life. I am able to hear God clearly now and I can see him at work in my life and my home.
God took nasty green paper and turned it into blessings I never could have imagined. It has not always been sunshine and rainbows. Two years after I had started tithing, I had to choke down the words, “I’m sorry but we’re letting you go” from a company that I had devoted myself to and had worked for, for many years. Going from what I felt was a very nice salary to drawing unemployment was difficult but I continued to tithe and God continued to take care of me and my family.
Learning to trust God with my finances has helped me to trust him with everything. It was the best decision, aside from salvation, that I have ever made and I challenge anyone who has not taken that step of faith to JUMP!!! It all comes down to this, you either trust Him or you don’t.
